To have a Purpose~Closed~

Valek was bored. That was the only thing that could be said about the master assassin. Stuck, in the middle of no where, looking for someone he wasn't likely to find unles, by some miracle, she walked passed him. Even then he probably wouldn't know it was her. He'd been given no information about his target, Valerie. Nothing at all. Only that she needed to be killed and she's be on one of the island. Really helpful.

So Valek was wandering between the islands with absolutely no idea where he was supposed to go. He listened to stories, trying to find out as much about his target as possible, but found very little. Ony hearsay and rumors. Nothing to be trusted. Still, he followed a few of the leads, but had only ended up back where he started. With no information and stuck on some random island. Again.

It was getting to the point that he was considering giving up. No leads, no target, not even the slightest help from his commissioner. He had nothing to go on, and without anything he wouldn't be able to the target. Actually, he couldn't find the woman who hired him, either, so that made things even more difficult.

And that was why a master assassin was standing in the middle of nowhere on some random island trying to find someone he couldn't find. All because he was hired to. Fun stuff.

Valerie

This place was beautiful. Similar to home, she could even say. Rolling green hills and beautiful trees towering high above, giving shade to creatures down below. The other places she had not cared about shedding blood, but here she would feel as if she had betrayed nature.
The tips of her fingers brushed against her athame as she thought about perhaps cleansing the area and making amends with the sin she was about to commit. Maybe she could allow this one to live...but that was out of the question. If Valhalley got their man-they'd be another step closer to their suprememe domination. After what her mother had did, Valerie wouldn't let that happen.

Her ears caught the sound of a twig snapping, and she unsheathed the knife she had hidden in her boot-it was the least unweildly if you didn't know what you were attacking. She turned, and spotted the man across the way-seemingly lost.

And that's when the sky opened up. It was trickling now, but by the way the clouds were moving-it would be a full blown storm.

She glared at the man, wondering what he was up to. But it was best find shelter first, kill later. There was always time for killing, even in the rain. She turned away, scanning the island for any sort of shelter. There was a cave jutting up not far into the woods, and so she walked over to it. No one had stayed in it for some time it looked like, it would be safe to wait it out here.

Of all things that could've happened, it started raining. Valek sighed and shook a few drops from his hair. He hated the rain, although if he had to get he would, but if he had a choice he'd stay inside or find shelter. Which, unfourtunately, he had none at that moment. Although there seemed to be a cave only a small distance away. The problem was that somene else had already found it.

That someone else was a beautiful blonde woman dressed for battle. Valek watched her walked towards the cave, and saw the telltale glint that told him she was holding a knife. That meant she'd probably seen him, either that or she thought there was something living in the cave. Valek doubted that. All tracks around the area pointed to the cave being unoccupied for some time, which left his first thought. She'd seen him.

Valek sighed and walked over to the cave with a confident stride. She could try to kill him. The keyword there being 'try'. Valek had plenty of weapons, and darts treated with sleeping potion, but he didn't really want a fight. Not while it was raining and he was soaked. He just wanted to start a fire and dry, then he might think about killing the girl if she gave him a reason to. Hopefully she didn't, because she was pretty.

"Do you mind?" Valek asked as he walked into the cave.

Valerie

She glared at the male as it came closer, clutching at the knife but putting it back in its sheath. Her eyes showed her weariness of the male-he did not appear to be any passerby. No; this was someone who came with a purpose, and by the bulk of his clothes, he was not unarmed. He had a sword at least-but she knew better than to think that was the only thing a male of this nature was carrying.
"Leave your weapons outside, and you may."
She grumbled under her breath, wishing she had a fire to curl up around and tell ghost stories too. Taking another look at the man, she took in his features-other than his sword. He had a handsome face and piercing blue eyes. His hair framed his face like the smokes billowing up from hell itself. He was not without wear and tear-he seemed to have a forlorn nature about his face that showed he had not had much of a childhood to really live by.
She turned her gaze away, leaning up against the wall. Her black leather clothes were tight against her body, which is why she wanted to get out of the rain so quickly-her clothing didn't much like the rain.

Valek

The woman seemed to be analysing Valek before she said anything. He stood there, weight rested evenly on both feet and his spaphire blue eyes on her. She was tall, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was armed, that obvious enough from the knife she'd sheathed less than a minute earlier, and wore tight leather clothes. Valek thought that it was no surprise she didn't want to be in the rain. Clothes like that didn't take getting wet very well.

"Leave your weapons outside, and you may." She said. Valek nodded and put his sword just inside the overhang, so it wouldn't get wet, and added about half of his knives into the pile just for good measure. He still had a dagger in his pocket, a throwing knife on his right forearm and a knife down his boot. Nothing compared to what he could normally be armed with. Oh, and he also had half a dozen darts treated with sleeping potion.

Then Valek walked into the cave and sat down. There was no chance of a fire, at all. The wood outside would be too wet to burn, and there was no dry wood in the cave. So he would just have to dry off normally. With a sigh he leaned against the wall behind him and closed his eyes.

"There's not much reason for a woman to be wandering around this island," Valek said.

A woman. Of course, a mine would refer to her as a woman and nothing more-he did not know the legend. Put it was better to keep a low key here, so that she was not found out and Valek flee. She would tell him simply that her name was unneeded.
"Neither should a helpless man."
She grumbled again and pulled out the athame, etching in the dirt a symbol for fire. Muttering a few words under her breath, a fire sprang up out of the ground over the symbol, seemingly from nothing. A grin spread across her face as she looked slyly up to the man, thoughts running through her mind about how much warmer it could be if she set him on fire instead of just the ground. But no; for all his male tendencies, he was good looking. He reminded her of her lover from the past; but she was hard hearted now-she would not allow love into her life again. She wasn't one for much conversation, so she just stared at him, wondering how many other weapons he hadn't put over in the pile.

Valek opened his eyes at her answer and glared at her. She just called him helpless. Not a good idea if she wanted to live until it stopped raining, but, instead of drawing a knife and throwing it at her, he just found a piece of root he'd been carving in..something and started shaving off fine curls of wood. He still didn't know what he was carving, but at least it was something to do until it stopped raining.

Because he'd been barely watching the woman, he was surprised when a fire started from nothing. He looked up from his carving and up at her. She stared back, and Valek put his knife and the piece of wood down next to him. He noticed, not for the first time, that she was beautiful.

"That's an interesting way of starting a fire," he commented, no emotion in his voice or his eyes. He didn't really care, but at least there was a fire, and the cave was quite a bit warmer.

Valerie

She made no comment, just looking at him with narrowed eyes. There was something about him that seemed eerily familiar; but she could not quite place it. Something about the way he talked that sent shivers up her spine-both the good kind and the warning kind telling her she should run. There was some air of confidence about him that made her feel insignificant-something she had never felt before.
She blinked, trying to remove the idea from her mind-she could not fall into a sense of insecurity, least around someone with that many weapons. No, she would have to stay on top of things and make sure everything wen down right.
"I'm looking for someone, if you must know why a woman is out amongst the islands."

Valek was starting to get annoyed by the woman's cold, almost uncaring demeanor. Even he, who wasn't really one for conversation, liked to at least by answered less evasively, although he often gave answers of such nature when he was trying to talk himself out of trouble, or keeping a secret of some kind from his commissioner. Mainly it was annoying because Valek was actually trying to be nice to the warrior woman, instead of his normal coldly sarastic self.

"I don't remember ever asking why you were here," Valek said, and there was a tone of warning in his voice that said he didn't expect or want a reply. With almost catlike grace he got to his feet and walked to the wall almost opposite the woman. His sapphire blue eyes stayed on her the whole time, but there was no caution or anxiety in them. It was more like a cat eyeing a mouse before pouncing."So I think it will be best if you don't ask me."

Then he grabbed a dart and threw it in one blurred motion that had been practiced countless times by the assassin. He wasn't sure if it hit, but he was going to take a chance. After all, he could always fight hand to hand or with a knife if he had to. The sleeping potion would be better, and it give him time to get out there once it stopped raining, well, if it stopped raining in less than five hours.

After counting to ten steadily in his head Valek walked around the fire and reached to retrieve his dart. Hopefully the rain eased off enough to travel in before the potion wore off.

Valerie

The female's eyes narrowed at the male as he turned away from her and stalked over to the wall; trying his best to get away from her. She had to stifle a laugh-to her it seemed he was afraid of her, trying to get away from her like a mouse would from a snake. Trying his best to climb out of the pit before the lion ate the gladiator. She smirked none the less, growling under her breath at the male's reply. He wasn't even to be called a man in her book-no male was ever a man for even ten minutes in his entire lifetime. Except for her dead lover; he had been a man of men-worthy of being a king. And mother had been a cold hearted bitch and killed him.
A single tear sprang from her orb as she thought back to the magnificent boy; too wrapped up in her thoughts to notice Valek throwing the dart. She turned away just in time, not wanting this foul human soul to notice her tears. It grazed her neck, causing it to sting. She squealed almost, an exasperated sigh as if from a banshee or siren escaping her lips.
"You bastard, you shall know the taste of a woman scorn-"
Her sentence was cut off as she slumped down, asleep. But not for long. She began to twitch for a moment, and then slowly awoke, looking at Valek across the room in a hazy gaze.
"P-Peter, what are you doing up?"
Gracefully she stood, as if she was no longer the valkyrie but only a woman. Her steps seemed to not even touch the ground and she glided over to him. She didn't hesitate in her movements as she placed her hands on his shoulders and leaned up kissing him gently on the lips.
"Come back to bed; even if it isn't the princely bed you're used to. If you love me as you say you do, it will be just as comfortable lying with me."

Valek watched as she slumped to the ground midsentence, except he didn't even have time to walk halfway across the room before she woke up again. The assassin stopped and stood still as she spoke again, but this time without any anger or threat. Valek almost frowned, but he kept his face blank. "P-Peter, what are you doing up?" she asked.

Then she stood up gracefully and walked over to him, seeming to float rather than walk. Valek stood still, trying to understand her sudden almost delusional state. He knew it could've been caused by the sleeping potion the dart was treated with, but it was strange that she woke up so quickly. He also wanted to know why she was calling him Peter, and he was just about to correct her when she put her hands on his shoulders and kissed her.

Valek stiffened slightly under her touch, unsure of why a woman he'd just met would call him Peter than kiss him. There wasn't any explanation for it, unless she had phsychotic breaks or was having a hallucination.

"Come back to bed; even if it isn't the princely bed you're used to. If you love me as you say you do, it will be just as comfortable lying with me." she said, and Valek found himself even more confused. He'd never said he loved her, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to lay with her or not. He'd only just met her, and from the way she'd acted before he started call him Peter she didn't like him very much.

Valek had no answer to that. He wasn't in a situation he'd ever been in before, and from what he'd seen of the woman she could probably fight just as well as him. There was nothing he could do and not anything he could think of saying that might decline her offer without causing her to fight him.

Valerie

If she was dreaming, she didn't want to wake up. In her heart, she knew this wasn't Peter. But he reminded her of him, and she wasn't awake enough to tell the difference. She was just dreaming, right? She was just living in a little world where nothing bad had ever happened. This man had tried to do soemthing to her, and yet she didn't care. No-perhaps she almost wanted to die right now. Then, at least, she'd get to be with her beloved Peter. She ddin't care about her quest to kill this Valek creature, she just wanted to go home. To Valhalley. To lay in Peter's arms again and watch the sun set on another perfect day. She had to hold on to the dream that this was really Peter!
"Peter please, don't be like this..."
Tears welled in her eyes, she just wanted everything to go back to the way things were .She hated this hard shell she put on to the outside world, she hated how much she hated her mother. And yes, she was very thoughtful when she was crocked. She slipped her hands into his, laying her head on his chest and sighing.
"Why can't things go back to the way they were?"
She knew this wasn't Peter, but it felt good to be able to say his name again. To be able to hear her say his name. Even though she knew this man could never know her own name.

Normally, the assassin would have completely control of the situation, except for factors like the weather, but what was happening to him at that moment he had absolutely no control over. He couldn't exactly tell her that he wasn't Peter, but if he played along with her and she realised that he wasn't Peter then he would have to fight her, not something he particulrly wanted to do. He could leave, but it was still raining outside the cave, and Valek avoided the rain as much as possible. He was quite like a cat in that respect.

So there was no way out. Valek resigned himself to playing along with whatever she was seeing as a side effect of the sleeping potion the dart had been treated with, and he was certain it was because of that. With her so close, too close if you asked him, he could see where the dart had barely scratched her skin. From experiance he knew a half dose would result in things like this. It was like a waking dream. Things that cna only be seen in dreams right in front of you, talking, acting normal, although nothing or someone very confused was really there.

It had happened to him all of once, when he accidently pricked his finger with one of his darts. For the next few hours he had thought he was talking to his dead brothers, when really he was sitting in a tavern talking to strangers who didn't have a clue about what he was rambling on about. That had been interesting for Valek to explain when he finally came back to his senses and realised where he was and who he was with. After that he had been more careful with his darts, remembering not to put his fingers anywhere near them unless he was going to throw them, in which case he was still careful not to prick himself again.

"Peter please, don't be like this..." Tears welled in her eyes, and she was crying. Valek completely lost all thoughts of planning when he saw the strength in her fade, and the woman he had seen when he walked into the cave disappear. He could tell that she really wnated him to be Peter, whoever he may be, for the time she was somewhere between sleep and awake. He decided that maybe playing along wouldn't be the worst thing, hopefully. So when her hands slipped into his he squeezed them gently and let her lay her head on his chest.

"Why can't things go back to the way they were?" Valek desperately wanted to know how this Peter was, and what he meant to her, but he couldn't exactly ask. Not while she thought he was Peter. Later. he thought.

"I'm sure they can, and I'll try everything to make everything go back to the way it used to be," Valek said.
